I started out as an award-winning journalist, then switched to video 15 years ago. Print was suffering and I wanted to explore new ways to tell stories.
In video I found a niche in the beauty industry, but my side passion was always art – and particularly street art.
This is a picture of me at the MadC show at the Heni Gallery in London a few years ago.
Shooting art launches
So between shooting facelifts and liposuction I started to rock-up at art launches and capture the events.
Here’s Cartoonneros at the Pure Evil Gallery in London. For me everything is about story, capture the story and you will develop an enriched understanding of the art. Here we learn that cartooniaros was brought up in a black and white world. So now – when he produces art – it’s rich in colour.
Technically these videos are tough to make, the lighting has been set up for art rather than people and the sound is always challenging to get right because galleries have hard surfaces that sound bounces off and launches are full of people. Plus time is short – there are no second takes.

Close-up videography? I video people having their eyelids cut open with a laser! I can handle the whole arc of videography and produce high quality footage that’s ready for prestige landscape presentations and can also be cut into vertical bites. I have my own artistic ideas and – at the same time – I can also take clear instructions to fulfil briefs.

Understanding the power of story
Here’s the article I wrote about MadC – not video! But good witting – like videography – is about telling a story. At the MadC launch Heni had all the video in place – a fabulous live broadcast – but the questions did not illicit any anecdotal meat. The answers fell flat.
It was only when the interview was opened up to the audience that Claudia’s answers started deliver. So you can have all the technical stuff in place, but without a strong sense of story you are only going to produce so-so content.
